The Rookie 2 from Julbo are polarized sunglasses with Polar Junior technology: designed for sport, they can be attached with a cord but can also be worn every day thanks to their category 3 anti-UV lenses.

💡 Note: Few brands offer polarized lenses on children's sunglasses. A good alternative can be choosing category 3 lenses that offer anti-reflective coating with a mirror effect as these still filter 100% of harmful UV rays.

How to choose the right polarized lenses

As we’ve mentioned, not all models and frames are equal in terms of protection against glare, UV rays and reflections. To choose the right pair of sunglasses that offer comfort and protection against harmful rays, there are a few criteria to take into account:

  • Choose lenses with a good protection category: You should always choose sunglasses that are category 3 or higher. That’s because 0 to 2 offers too little protection and category 4 is designed for intense light conditions, like rock climbing in direct sunlight, or during a nuclear apocalypse.
  • UV protection is also super important: Make sure that your lenses comply with ANSI legislation . This guarantees quality and 100% filtration against UV rays.
  • The best lenses to protect your eyes are those made with high-quality materials. There are 3 standard materials used when making sunglasses: mineral glass, organic glass and polycarbonate. Our favorite is polycarbonate! Polycarbonate lenses reduce glare while providing 100% protection from UV rays and, above all, they are lightweight and durable.
  • The lens color: If you want lenses that are suitable for all situations, we advise choosing gray lenses or green lenses.
  • Quality polarized lenses: If you’re spending so much, you want a guarantee of quality and longevity. Check they’re treated properly and have been independently verified.
  • Attractive frames: Choose carefully! You want polarized sunglasses that suit your face and depending on its shape, you may need glasses with a low bridge, nose pads and a material adapted to daily use.

💡 Note: If you're wondering if polarized lenses are right for you, we've written a complete guide on the subject: 'Polarized lenses, the advantages and disadvantages', to help you see more clearly (ba dum tshh)

Final Thoughts: The Best Pairs of Polarized Sunglasses

    • Not only do polarized lenses improve contrast and effectively protect against UV rays, but they also reduce glare by filtering a large amount of light.
    • A polarized lens is versatile, and ideal for outdoor activities (sports, walking, mountain hiking, water sports or simply to get a tan while protecting your eyes and skin from nasty UV rays) thanks to its protection against glare and harmful rays from the sun.
    • Don’t forget to pay attention to the material of the glass (preferably polycarbonate lenses), the category of the lenses (index 3 is the most suitable for everyday use), their compliance with current standards , and also the quality of the frame .
    • Many models of glasses from major brands offer polarized lenses, but not on all their models: remember to check and ask a professional for advice if necessary.
